How do I find my vocal range? How to measure your vocal range with the vocal range finder?

We’ll explain what your vocal range is and how to measure it

Test your vocal range online

This tool lets you test your vocal range directly online using your microphone. In just a few minutes, you can discover your lowest note, your highest note, and your complete vocal range, without any prior musical knowledge.

The test analyzes your voice in real time and displays detected notes on a chromatic wheel, allowing you to visualize your vocal range precisely (notes, octaves, and semitone span).

How does the vocal range test work?

Click “Test my range” and allow microphone access. Position yourself in a quiet environment and start by singing a comfortable note without straining. The tool automatically detects your voice pitch.

Step 1: Find your highest note
Gradually sing higher without straining, then hold your highest note for about 2 seconds. When the note is stable, it’s automatically recorded.

Step 2: Find your lowest note
From a comfortable note, gradually sing lower, then hold your lowest note for about 2 seconds. The tool validates your vocal limit as soon as the note is stable.

Once these two steps are complete, the module automatically calculates your vocal range, the interval between your lowest and highest notes. The result is clearly displayed with notes, octaves, and total semitone span.

Why should you know your vocal range?

Knowing your vocal range is essential to sing without straining, choose the right key for a song, and adapt chords on guitar or piano. It’s a key element for working on singing, guitar and vocals, and voice/instrument independence.

In the “Guitar and Vocals Basics” video series (see the YouTube playlist), you’ll discover how to use your vocal range to transpose songs, improve your vocal comfort, and develop your voice progressively.

These concepts are explored in depth with Béné in a complete online course, specially designed for beginners:

Important: This test provides an estimate of your vocal range. It can evolve with warm-up, fatigue, or vocal training. For a more reliable result, repeat the test under good conditions.
